Arnaud Quercy

Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This painting maps a specific piano chord onto color. Arnaud Quercy takes the Bb Major triad — Bb1, Bb2, Bb3, D4, F4, D5 — and assigns each note a chromatic equivalent, producing a visual score rather than a representational image. The work belongs to the Bb Major series within the Harmonic Crossing collection, which draws on piano studies and cycle of fifths mapping as its structural foundation.

Warm neutral tones fill most of the surface, running from pale sand through mid-tone ochre into deeper rosy brown. These cover the largest areas of the composition and establish the ground against which the other colors register. Red-violet and deep mauve occupy substantial zones, corresponding to the violet-toward-black range described in the harmonic translation of the chord. A concentrated area of orange — visible as a rounded form near the center-left — provides the most saturated color in the work, flanked by a cooler gray field in the upper right. Near-black anchors the lower right corner, completing the descent from violet toward darkness that the chord structure requires. A warm red-orange accent appears at the edge of the orange form, adding a point of chromatic tension. Black outlines separate the color zones, giving the composition a clear geometric structure across its vertical format. The paint is acrylic on paper, with visible texture across the orange area from brushwork.

The work measures 21 × 15 cm and weighs 0.1 kg. It is the fourteenth variation in the Bb Major series. The certificate number is 20261002-0172. The painting was created on 2 October 2026 at the Rue du Dragon studio in Paris. It was first exhibited at Les Portes du Dragon — Portes ouvertes de la galerie-atelier Art Quam Anima, held at Art Quam Anima, Paris, from 2 to 4 October 2026. The work is currently available.
