Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This work explores the visual translation of a Db Major piano étude through chromesthetic mapping, where musical intervals become color relationships. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, the piece transforms the harmonic structure of a spread Db Major chord into a geometric composition that makes sound visible through color.

Warm yellow-orange tones dominate the composition, establishing the primary harmonic foundation, while deep violet areas create substantial presence in the lower registers. Red and dusty mauve sections occupy significant portions of the surface, representing the chord's middle voices, with blue-green and blue-violet forms providing harmonic tension. The acrylic paint on linen canvas creates smooth color transitions that mirror the fluid movement between musical intervals, allowing colors to layer and interact as notes would in a piano performance.

The work measures 73 × 92 cm and weighs approximately 2 kg, executed in acrylic on linen canvas. Certificate of authenticity number 20240718-0197 accompanies the piece, with the artist's signature located at bottom left. The chromesthetic system translates the Db Major triad - Db, F, and Ab - into specific color families, creating a visual harmony that corresponds directly to the musical structure of the original étude.
