Arnaud Quercy

Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

Quercy explores the visual translation of musical harmony through chromesthetic mapping in this third variation of his Research on Harmony series. The work transforms a Bb minor chord into color relationships, where each note corresponds to a specific hue based on synesthetic perception. The piece investigates how musical structures can manifest as visual compositions while maintaining their harmonic logic.

Very dark gray forms anchor the composition in the lower register, representing the root tone Bb2. Blue-green tones occupy substantial areas throughout the middle range, translating the minor third Db4. Yellow-orange appears across significant portions of the upper composition, corresponding to the high A5. Red tones provide structural support in the mid-range, representing F3. The geometric forms interlock and overlap, creating spatial relationships that mirror the chord's voicing across multiple octaves.

The acrylic on linen canvas measures 73.0 × 92.0 cm and weighs as a substantial large-format work. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, this piece carries certificate number 20240718-0191 with signature located bottom right. The work demonstrates Quercy's systematic approach to translating auditory experiences into visual form, using color theory to make musical relationships tangible.
