Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This work explores the visual translation of the Db Major triad through chromesthetic mapping, part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection. The composition translates the chord tones Db, F, and Ab into their corresponding color equivalents, creating a visual representation of harmonic relationships. The piece investigates how musical structures can find expression through color relationships and spatial organization.

Red-violet tones occupy substantial areas of the composition, appearing alongside yellow-green forms that create the primary visual dialogue. Warm yellow-orange sections provide counterpoint to cooler blue-violet areas, while accent notes of green and red-orange punctuate the surface. The acrylic medium allows for clean color separations and layered relationships, with geometric forms organizing the harmonic content across the vertical format.

The work measures 60 × 120 cm on linen canvas, weighing approximately 1.4 kg in its unframed state. This monumental scale accommodates the spread voicing of the chord across multiple octaves, from Ab3 through B5. Certificate of authenticity number 20240718-0198 accompanies the work, with the artist's signature located bottom right. The piece represents Variation 4 within the broader harmonic research series, completed in France during 2024.
