Arnaud Quercy

Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This painting maps a musical chord directly onto a visual grid. Arnaud Quercy takes the Ab7#11 dominant seventh sharp eleven chord — with notes Ab0, Ab2, C3, D3, C4, D5, and C6 — and assigns each pitch a color. The result is a geometric composition where harmonic structure from piano studies and cycle of fifths mapping becomes the organizing principle of the image. The work belongs to the Ab7#11 series and sits within the Harmonic Crossing collection, which uses color and geometry to represent harmonic relationships.

Warm neutrals — creamy off-whites and sandy tones — fill the largest areas of the composition, grounding the image. Against this, a deep black field anchors the left side with strong vertical weight. Slate blue and blue-violet blocks appear in the upper center, corresponding to specific chord tones. A salmon-coral rectangle occupies the upper left quadrant, while a muted purple-lavender spreads across the upper right. Lower sections introduce a dark plum-violet column, a small warm tan strip, a pale pink band, and a sharp red block near the bottom center. A narrow orange strip appears at the far right edge. The palette moves from warm neutrals through cool violets and into near-black, with the red accent providing the sharpest contrast in the composition. Black outlines separate each color field, reinforcing the grid structure. The paint is acrylic on paper, applied with flat, even coverage across each zone.

The work measures 30 × 21 cm and weighs 0.1 kg. It was completed on 2 October 2026 at the Rue du Dragon studio in Paris. The painting was first shown publicly at Les Portes du Dragon — Portes ouvertes de la galerie-atelier Art Quam Anima, held at Art Quam Anima, Paris, from 2 to 4 October 2026. It carries certificate number 20261002-0188 and is currently available. The asset code is AQC1137.
