Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This watercolor explores the note Ab in octaves through chromesthetic translation, where musical intervals become visible color relationships. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, the work translates a seven-note voicing spanning from Ab1 to Eb6 into a visual composition that maps each pitch to its corresponding color family.

Light blue-violet tones dominate the right portion of the composition, representing the higher octave ranges, while warm yellow-orange areas occupy substantial regions throughout the surface. A striking teal circle provides focal contrast within the predominantly neutral left section. The geometric forms organize into distinct zones, with vertical rectangular elements creating rhythmic divisions that echo the octave intervals. Black linear elements define the structural boundaries, while subtle violet and orange accents punctuate specific areas.

The watercolor measures 15.0 × 21.0 cm on paper, created in France during January 2025. Certificate of authenticity number 20250125-0001 accompanies the work, with the artist's signature located at bottom right. The piece forms part of Quercy's systematic investigation into sound-color correspondence, where specific musical structures generate predetermined visual outcomes through established chromesthetic principles.
