D Major 9

About This Artwork

This étude translates a D Major9 chord voicing into color and spatial form through chromesthetic mapping. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, the work converts musical harmony into visual elements, making audible relationships visible through systematic color correspondence. The piece explores how extended jazz harmonies can be rendered as geometric compositions.

The composition centers on warm yellow-orange tones that dominate the surface, with goldenrod and tan creating the primary harmonic structure. Dark slate gray anchors the bass register, while peru and burnt sienna provide substantial orange presence throughout the middle range. Lighter wheat tones appear in the upper frequencies, creating a gradual brightness progression from deep grays to pale highlights. Black and olive accents punctuate specific harmonic points, adding definition to the overall warm palette.

Measuring ten by fifteen centimeters, this acrylic on paper work demonstrates the artist's approach to synesthetic translation on an intimate scale. The piece carries certificate of authenticity number 20240220-0016 and bears the artist's signature in the bottom right corner. Created in France during 2024, the work represents contemporary investigations into the visual properties of musical structures within Quercy's ongoing chromesthetic research.
