Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This work explores the visual representation of musical harmony through the C Major9 chord, part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection where colors correspond to specific musical pitches. The piece translates the complex harmonic structure of C, E, G, B, and D into a geometric composition that makes sound visible through chromesthetic mapping.

Orange tones dominate the surface, creating the primary harmonic foundation through chocolate, tan, and burnt sienna hues that represent the D notes in different octaves. Deep violet areas provide contrast through black and very dark gray sections, establishing the lower register presence. A subtle yellow-green accent appears as white, completing the harmonic structure with the highest pitch element.

The work measures 10 × 15 cm and weighs minimal as acrylic on paper, created in 2024 with certificate of authenticity number 20240306-0054 and signature on the back. This piece functions as variation 10 within the broader research into harmonic visualization, demonstrating how major ninth chords create specific color relationships when translated through synesthetic perception.
