Arnaud Quercy

Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This work translates the B Major triad into visual form through chromesthetic mapping, part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection. The piece explores how harmonic relationships can be expressed through color, converting the musical intervals of B, D#, and F# into their corresponding visual equivalents. The composition investigates the spatial arrangement of chord tones across different octaves.

Violet tones dominate the composition, appearing in multiple values from very dark gray through dusty mauve and darkslateblue to mediumpurple. These violet variations represent the repeated B-flat notes across different octaves, creating a unified harmonic foundation. Yellow-orange, blue-green, and red-violet accents provide chromatic contrast, appearing as small geometric forms that punctuate the violet field. The acrylic medium on wood panel allows for precise color boundaries and clean geometric divisions.

The work measures 15.0 × 21.0 × 0.3 cm and weighs minimal amounts due to its compact scale. Created in 2024, this piece carries certificate number 20241201-0269. The composition uses a spread voicing that opens harmonic intervals across six octaves, from the low Eb2 through the high Eb7, with an A4 accent note providing tonal contrast. The geometric forms are arranged to suggest the vertical spacing of notes on a musical staff.
