Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

Ramon, the Garden Keeper explores the tension between public roles and private identity through cubist fragmentation. Part of the Mediterranean Echoes collection, this drawing emerged from weeks of observing a garden keeper in Salou, Spain, whose mysterious behavior sparked questions about the stories we construct around strangers.

The composition fragments a figure into geometric planes and angular forms rendered in graphite. Dark shading dominates the left side, creating substantial mass and depth, while lighter tones occupy the right portion of the vertical format. Curved elements appear throughout the angular structure, softening the cubist geometry. The pencil technique builds form through controlled gradations, moving from deep shadows to pale highlights across the paper surface.

This work measures 14.8 × 21.0 cm on paper, placing it within Quercy's small-format portrait studies. The drawing bears certificate of authenticity number 20221231-0054 and carries the artist's signature on the front. Created in France during 2022, the piece represents Quercy's contemporary approach to figurative fragmentation within the Mediterranean Echoes series.

The cubist treatment transforms observational drawing into psychological investigation. Where traditional portraiture might capture surface appearance, this fragmented approach suggests the complexity of identity and the impossibility of truly knowing another person through observation alone.
