Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.
He creates and exhibits at Art Quam Anima, his gallery-atelier at 28 rue du Dragon, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris.
About This Artwork
This painting translates a single piano chord into visual form. Arnaud Quercy maps the D7 dominant seventh — built from the notes D1, C3, D3, F#4, A4, and A5 — onto color relationships drawn from cycle of fifth mapping and piano étude practice. The work belongs to the D7 series within the Harmonic Crossing collection, which explores how harmonic structures from music can be expressed through color organization on a flat surface.
Warm orange and yellow-orange tones fill most of the surface, establishing the chord's tonal center. Yellow-green areas occupy a substantial portion of the composition, running vertically and pulling against the warmer ground. The image seen here confirms this structure: a broad red-orange field anchors the left, a vivid orange vertical stripe cuts through the center, and cooler teal-green zones occupy the right side and a central band. A dark near-black zone sits at the upper center, providing the deepest contrast. Black outlines divide the surface into irregular geometric panels — some rectangular, some curved at the edges — creating a grid that reads both as musical notation structure and as abstract color field. Red-orange and russet tones appear as focused accents within the warmer areas. The paint is applied in flat, matte layers on paper using acrylic, with no visible texture buildup.
The work measures 18 × 13 cm and weighs 0.1 kg, painted on paper. It carries certificate number 20261002-0160. The painting was created on October 2, 2026, at the Rue du Dragon studio in Paris. It was first shown publicly at Les Portes du Dragon, the open studio event at Art Quam Anima in Paris, running October 2 to 4, 2026. The work is currently available.
