Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.
He creates and exhibits at Art Quam Anima, his gallery-atelier at 28 rue du Dragon, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris.
About This Artwork
This work explores the visual translation of musical harmony through chromesthetic mapping, part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection. The G major triad appears as a spread voicing across four octaves, with each note assigned its corresponding color based on synesthetic perception. The composition investigates how harmonic relationships in music can be expressed through color relationships on paper.
Orange tones dominate the composition, occupying most of the surface through sandybrown and peru hues that represent the D notes in different octaves. Yellow-orange areas provide substantial presence through goldenrod and ochre tones, corresponding to the A note that creates harmonic tension. Two accent colors punctuate the composition: a deep red-orange russet representing the root G note, and a pale yellow-green white marking the high B. The acrylic medium allows for clean color boundaries while maintaining subtle gradations within each area.
The work measures 15.0 × 21.0 cm on paper and weighs 0.1 kg, making it part of the small format studies in the series. Certificate of authenticity number 20251123-0119 accompanies the piece, with the artist's signature located at the bottom right. This represents Variation 11 in the Research on Harmony series, created in France in November 2025. The chromesthetic approach translates specific musical pitches into their visual equivalents, creating a direct correspondence between auditory and visual perception.
