Ab Major 9

About This Artwork

This work explores the visual translation of an Ab Major 9 chord through chromesthetic mapping. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, the piece converts the harmonic structure of Bb2, Bb3, G4, and C5 into their corresponding color equivalents, creating a visual piano étude that bridges auditory and visual perception.

Light coral red dominates the composition, representing the C5 note and occupying the central geometric forms. Deep violet tones appear in substantial areas, translating the low Bb2 foundation, while red-orange accents provide the G4 voice. The colors organize into overlapping rectangular shapes against a coral background, with small geometric details including a dark umbrella form and linear elements that suggest musical notation. White and brown details punctuate the composition, creating visual rhythm points that echo the chord's harmonic intervals.

The acrylic on paper measures 14.8 × 21.0 cm and carries certificate of authenticity number 20240228-0031. The artist's signature appears at the bottom right. This compact format allows the chromesthetic translation to function as both musical study and visual composition, demonstrating how harmonic relationships can manifest through color theory and geometric arrangement.
