Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This watercolor explores the harmonic structure of the G7b9 chord through chromesthetic translation, where musical tones become visible color relationships. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, the work translates the dominant seventh flat nine chord into a visual composition that maintains the tension and resolution inherent in jazz harmony.

Yellow-orange tones dominate the composition, with burlywood and tan colors creating the primary harmonic foundation. Orange hues appear throughout substantial areas, ranging from lighter darksalmon to deeper peru and chocolate tones. These warm colors organize into geometric forms — circles, rectangles, and angular shapes — connected by flowing black lines that trace harmonic progressions across the paper. A blue-green accent appears as dimgray, providing the chromatic tension that defines the flat nine interval.

The watercolor measures 30.0 × 42.0 cm on paper and weighs minimal as an unframed work. Created in 2024, it carries certificate of authenticity number 20240802-0112 with the artist's signature positioned at bottom right. The piece demonstrates chromesthetic mapping where the chord tones G, B, D, F, and A♭ correspond to specific color families, creating visual harmony that mirrors musical structure.
