Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This acrylic painting translates the G minor chord into visual form through chromesthetic mapping, converting its three notes into colors based on the circle of fifths. G becomes red-orange, B-flat translates to violet, and D maps to orange. The composition arranges these chord tones as geometric fields across the panel surface, treating each note as a distinct area of color. Created from simple etudes at the piano using spread voicing, the work captures how a minor chord distributes its tones across a wide harmonic interval.

Warm red-orange and burnt sienna tones fill most of the surface, anchoring the composition with the root note's visual presence. Orange passages cut through the lower portion, representing the fifth of the chord. A cluster of smaller geometric forms near the center introduces violet and pale lavender alongside white and dark shapes, marking B-flat's role as the minor third. Deep black areas occupy the lower register, providing structural weight. Thin dark lines divide the surface into angular sections, organizing the color fields into a clear architecture. The acrylic medium on wood panel produces flat, opaque surfaces with clean edges between color zones.

As Variation 3 in the Research on Harmony series within the Synesthetic Explorations collection, this piece focuses specifically on the G minor chord structure. The thirty by forty-two centimeter vertical format gives each chord tone enough space to register as a distinct presence. Close viewing reveals how the geometric divisions mirror the intervals between notes, with the spread voicing reflected in the separation between color areas.

The work bears the artist's signature at the lower right corner and includes certificate of authenticity number 20241201-0236.
