Arnaud Quercy

Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This acrylic painting explores how a single musical note expands across octaves to create a visual symphony of color. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, which translates musical harmony into chromatic form, the work transforms the octave of C into a progression of warm tones that balance depth with clarity. Working on eighty-one by one hundred centimeter linen canvas, Quercy converts the mathematical relationship of octaves into a visual continuum where each color layer suggests the harmonic connections between high and low registers.

Warm orange tones dominate the composition, appearing most prominently throughout the surface while creating substantial presence in multiple areas. Deep earth tones and burnt siennas provide darker accents, with yellow-orange passages adding lighter contrast. Bright red-orange notes punctuate the warmer palette, while a subtle blue-violet accent creates cool relief against the predominantly warm spectrum. The acrylic medium allows smooth color transitions that mirror the natural flow between octave registers, where each tone connects seamlessly to the next while maintaining its distinct identity.

The monumental scale requires close engagement to perceive how the octave structure manifests through color relationships. As part of Synesthetic Explorations, which bridges auditory experience with chromatic expression, this piece demonstrates how the stability and expansiveness of octaves translates into visual form. The work shows how musical intervals can be experienced through color, creating connections that unite different registers into a complete harmonic structure.

The painting includes certificate of authenticity number 20240718-0194 and bears the artist's signature at the bottom left corner.
