Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.
He creates and exhibits at Art Quam Anima, his gallery-atelier at 28 rue du Dragon, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris.
About This Artwork
This work explores the relationship between musical harmony and visual perception through chromesthetic mapping, where the C Major9 chord becomes visible through color. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, the piece translates the chord's six notes into corresponding color families based on the circle of fifths system.
Yellow-orange tones dominate the composition, appearing throughout the surface in warm, earthy variations. Red-orange areas create substantial presence through salmon and tan hues, while a deep blue-violet section provides contrast in the lower register. Small accent areas of orange, yellow-green, blue-green, and green complete the harmonic structure, creating subtle color relationships that mirror the chord's musical intervals.
The work measures 14.8 × 21.0 cm and uses acrylic on paper, with the artist's signature on the back. Certificate of authenticity number 20240306-0047 documents the piece's provenance. Created in 2024 as part of Quercy's systematic investigation into synesthetic perception, this variation demonstrates how complex jazz harmonies can be rendered as visual compositions while maintaining their essential harmonic relationships.
