Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This work explores the visual translation of the Eb Major triad through chromesthetic mapping, part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection. The piece converts the chord tones Eb, G, and Bb into their corresponding color equivalents, creating a direct bridge between musical harmony and visual composition. The study examines how spread voicing in piano technique translates to spatial color relationships on paper.

Red-violet tones dominate the composition, appearing in varied intensities from pale thistle to deeper dusty mauve. These colors represent the F notes that resolve to Bb within the harmonic structure. Gray areas provide the foundational Eb tone, while bright orange accents mark specific harmonic intervals. The geometric forms are contained within a central rectangular framework, with angular divisions creating distinct color zones that correspond to different octave registers.

The work measures 10.5 × 15.0 cm and weighs 0.1 kg, executed in acrylic on paper. This piece represents variation 5 within the Research on Harmony series, exploring how piano études translate into color relationships. The artist's signature appears at bottom right, with certificate of authenticity number 20251123-0108. The compact format concentrates the harmonic analysis into an intimate study suitable for close examination of chromesthetic principles.
