Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This work explores chromesthetic translation through the C Major9 chord, converting musical harmony into visual color relationships. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, the piece maps the chord's structure — root C, third E, fifth G, seventh B, and ninth D — onto a precise color palette that follows the artist's personal synesthetic associations.

Orange tones dominate the composition, with burnt sienna forming the primary mass and russet providing substantial presence throughout the surface. Black appears as a grounding element, while yellow-orange areas create lighter passages. Two accent colors punctuate the arrangement: a bright yellow-white mark and deep red-orange details that correspond to specific chord tones in the harmonic structure.

The work measures 10.0 × 15.0 cm on paper, executed in acrylic with certificate of authenticity number 20240306-0058. The artist's signature appears on the back. This variation represents one exploration within the broader research into harmonic color relationships, where each chord tone receives its corresponding chromesthetic color according to the artist's synesthetic perception.
