Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.
He creates and exhibits at Art Quam Anima, his gallery-atelier at 28 rue du Dragon, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris.
About This Artwork
This work explores the C Major9 chord through chromesthetic mapping, where musical harmony becomes visible color. The piece translates the extended jazz chord structure into geometric forms, creating a visual representation of harmonic relationships between root, third, fifth, seventh, and ninth intervals.
Red-violet tones dominate the left side of the composition, with very dark gray and black areas occupying substantial portions of the surface. Orange family colors appear throughout the right section, ranging from coral to darksalmon hues, while gray tones create transitional zones between the primary color areas. Two accent colors provide harmonic punctuation: a small white rectangle positioned at the intersection of the main color blocks, and burnt sienna appearing as subtle details within the darker passages.
The work measures 10.0 × 15.0 cm and uses acrylic on paper support. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, this piece demonstrates the artist's systematic approach to translating musical structures into visual form. The painting bears certificate of authenticity number 20240306-0057 and is signed on the back.
