Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

Lydian Dance - Modal Composition No 2 translates the distinctive characteristics of the Lydian mode into visual form through chromesthetic mapping. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, this work converts the raised fourth degree that defines the Lydian mode into a specific color relationship. The painting explores how modal intervals create harmonic tensions that correspond to visual color interactions.

Orange and yellow-orange tones dominate the composition, creating substantial areas of warmth that correspond to the modal structure. Red-orange forms appear throughout the surface, providing contrast and depth. Gray elements create grounding points within the composition, while darker charcoal and russet sections add structural definition. The colors layer and interact to mirror the harmonic relationships found in Lydian mode progressions.

The acrylic painting measures 50 × 60 cm and weighs approximately 1.2 kg on canvas support. Certificate of authenticity number 20231231-0089 accompanies the work, with the artist's signature located at bottom right. This piece represents the second modal composition in the series, building upon the systematic exploration of how Western musical modes translate into visual color relationships through the artist's chromesthetic perception.
