Arnaud Quercy

Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This painting translates a piano étude into color. Arnaud Quercy maps the D Minor 7 chord — built from the notes D1, D4, A4, and A5 — onto a visual field using a harmonic-chromatic system drawn from piano studies and cycle of fifth mapping. The work belongs to the D minor 7 series within the Harmonic Crossing collection, which explores the relationships between musical harmony and color.

Vertical bands and partial circles organize the surface into distinct zones. Warm tan and rosy brown tones fill most of the composition, covering the left and central areas in layered, muted yellow-orange fields. A sharp red-orange vertical stripe cuts through the center, separating the warmer left half from a dense black zone on the right. A muted red-violet half-circle sits at the upper center, split by the red stripe. Below it, a yellow-orange arc extends across the lower-left area. The black field on the right absorbs the remaining forms, with a partial brown circle emerging at the lower-right edge. Burnt sienna, russet, and firebrick tones appear as accent notes throughout. The painting is acrylic on paper, with visible texture from the paper support beneath the flat, graphic paint application.

The work measures 21 × 15 cm and weighs 0.1 kg. It is the fifth variation in the D minor 7 series. The certificate number is 20261002-0169. The painting was created on 2 October 2026 at the Rue du Dragon studio in Paris. It was first shown publicly at Les Portes du Dragon, the open studio event at Art Quam Anima, Paris, from 2 to 4 October 2026. The work is currently available.
