Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This work explores the visual translation of a specific piano chord within the Synesthetic Explorations collection. The Em7b5 half-diminished seventh chord becomes a study in how harmonic relationships can be expressed through color and spatial arrangement. The piece investigates the connection between musical intervals and visual perception.

Silver tones dominate the square composition, creating a luminous foundation across the paper surface. Light steel blue areas provide substantial presence, while very dark grays and black establish depth in the lower registers. Multiple blue-violet variations appear throughout, ranging from pale gainsboro to deeper steel blue tones. The acrylic medium allows for smooth color transitions and precise tonal control. Small yellow-orange and yellow accents punctuate the cooler palette, adding harmonic tension to the overall arrangement.

The work measures 21.0 × 21.0 cm and weighs 0.1 kg, executed in acrylic on paper. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, it bears certificate of authenticity number 20260305-0018 and is signed bottom right. The compact square format concentrates the harmonic relationships into a focused study, with each color area corresponding to specific pitches in the chord voicing from E1 through G7.
