Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.
He creates and exhibits at Art Quam Anima, his gallery-atelier at 28 rue du Dragon, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris.
About This Artwork
This work explores chromesthetic mapping within the Synesthetic Explorations collection, translating piano harmony into visual form. The D5 power chord becomes a color study that maps specific pitches to their corresponding visual equivalents. Quercy investigates how musical intervals can create visual harmony through direct color correspondence.
Orange tones dominate the composition, with dark salmon appearing as the primary color alongside substantial areas of peru and burlywood. Silver and light gray provide neutral balance, while a yellow-orange accent creates harmonic tension. The acrylic medium on paper allows for smooth color transitions that mirror the spread voicing of the chord. Dark brown anchors the lower register, moving through progressively lighter orange tones that correspond to ascending pitches.
The painting measures 15.0 × 21.0 cm and weighs 0.1 kg, part of the first variation in this harmonic research series. The work draws inspiration from piano studies and cycle of fifths mapping, translating the D5 power chord spanning from D3 to A6 into chromesthetic relationships. The piece carries certificate of authenticity number 20260305-0020 and bears the artist's signature at bottom right.
