D minor

About This Artwork

This work explores the visual translation of a D minor triad through chromesthetic mapping, part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection. The composition presents the fundamental chord tones D, F, and A as their corresponding color equivalents, creating a visual interpretation of harmonic relationships. The piece investigates how musical intervals can be expressed through color relationships and spatial organization.

Orange tones dominate the composition, occupying nearly half the surface through varied hues from goldenrod to burnt sienna. Yellow-orange areas provide substantial presence throughout the work, while gray and red-orange sections create contrasting zones. A small dark brown accent appears as a yellow family note, adding harmonic complexity to the overall color structure. The geometric forms organize these colors into overlapping planes and curved sections that suggest the layered voicing of the original chord.

The work measures 21.0 × 30.0 × 0.3 cm and uses acrylic on wood panel, creating a compact format suitable for intimate study. Certificate of authenticity number 20241201-0252 accompanies the piece, with the artist's signature located on the reverse. As part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, this variation demonstrates the systematic approach to translating musical structures into visual compositions through established chromesthetic correspondences.
