Arnaud Quercy

Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

Quercy translates the C# Major triad into visual form through chromesthetic mapping, where musical pitches correspond to specific colors. This work from the Synesthetic Explorations collection demonstrates how harmonic relationships can be expressed through color relationships, creating a direct bridge between auditory and visual perception.

Red tones dominate the composition, appearing throughout the surface in dusty mauve variations that represent the fundamental frequencies of the chord. Bright blue-green areas occupy substantial portions of the work, creating the visual equivalent of the chord's upper harmonics. Small accent notes in blue-violet and darker blue provide precise harmonic details, while a cream-colored area offers tonal contrast against the deeper colors.

The work measures 21 × 30 cm and uses acrylic on paper to achieve clean color separations essential for chromesthetic accuracy. The composition organizes the C# Major triad - Db, F, Ab - across multiple octaves, with each pitch rendered in its corresponding chromesthetic color. Certificate of authenticity number 20240602-0084 accompanies the work, with the artist's signature appearing on the front right.
