About This Artwork
The Alchemist depicts Zosimos of Panopolis in his tower, exploring the transformation of knowledge through fragmented geometric forms. Part of the Spells and Magic collection, this work examines how ancient wisdom appears when broken into angular components and reassembled through contemporary perspective. The drawing investigates the relationship between scholarly pursuit and visual deconstruction.
Gray tones dominate the composition, creating a monochromatic foundation that emphasizes structural relationships over color variation. Black lines define the geometric divisions that fragment the alchemist's form, while white areas provide contrast and suggest illumination within the tower setting.
