D Major

About This Artwork

This work translates the D Major triad into visual form through chromesthetic mapping, where musical pitches correspond to specific colors. Part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection, the piece explores how harmonic relationships in music can manifest as color relationships on a painted surface.

Yellow-orange tones dominate the composition, occupying most of the surface through ochre and tan areas that represent the A notes in different octaves. Orange sections appear as chocolate-colored forms, translating the D root note, while blue-green darkslategray areas provide contrast as chromesthetic interpretations of lower register tones. The geometric forms overlap and intersect, creating visual harmonies that mirror the chord's musical structure.

The acrylic painting measures 21.0 × 30.0 × 0.3 cm on wood panel and weighs minimal for easy display. Created in 2024 as part of the artist's systematic investigation into sound-color relationships, the work includes certificate of authenticity number 20241201-0248. The piece demonstrates how a simple three-note chord can generate complex visual arrangements when each pitch receives its corresponding chromesthetic color translation.
