About This Artwork

Conversation with Alyssums explores the relationship between natural forms and urban environments through abstract charcoal drawing. Part of the "Nature in the city" collection, this work examines how small flowering plants create moments of organic presence within constructed spaces. The piece translates the visual experience of encountering alyssum flowers into flowing, interconnected forms that suggest both botanical structure and architectural elements.

Light gray tones dominate the composition, establishing a neutral foundation that evokes concrete surfaces and urban atmospheres. Silver and gainsboro areas create substantial presence throughout the middle ground, while steel gray and rosy brown sections provide depth and contrast. Darker charcoal marks appear selectively, creating focal points and defining the boundaries between organic and geometric elements. The charcoal medium allows for smooth gradations and textural variety, with areas of soft blending contrasting against sharper linear elements.

The drawing measures 21.0 × 29.0 cm on paper, creating a compact vertical format that concentrates the abstract elements into an intimate viewing experience. The work carries certificate of authenticity number 20231231-0067 and bears the artist's signature on the front surface. Created in France during 2023, this piece represents Quercy's contemporary approach to translating natural observations into abstract visual language.
