Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

This painting translates a piano étude into color. The D7 dominant seventh chord — built from the notes D1, D3, D#3, C4, D4, and D5 — provides the structural source. Each note maps to a color zone on the canvas. The work belongs to the Harmonic Crossing collection and sits within the D7 series, which uses cycle of fifth mapping as its organizing principle.

Warm orange tones fill most of the surface, running from sandy mid-tones through deep russet and burnt brown. Ochre and yellow-orange areas hold substantial presence in the mid-ground, while a vertical band of near-black cuts through the composition and anchors the right-center. Cool grayish tones — closer to blue-violet — appear across several zones, providing contrast to the warm mass. Green and yellow-green blocks occupy the upper right, their brightness distinct against the surrounding earth tones. A small red-orange area functions as the sharpest chromatic accent in the work. The composition organizes these zones as flat, adjacent rectangles and partial arcs — hard-edged forms applied in acrylic on linen canvas with visible vertical brushwork in the darker passages.

The painting measures 116 × 89 × 2 cm and is classified as monumental in scale. It was created on 7 October 2026 at the Rue du Dragon studio in Paris. The work carries certificate number 20261007-0198. It is currently available. The Harmonic Crossing collection maps harmonic structures from music theory onto color relationships across a series of paintings, with the D7 series focusing specifically on the dominant seventh chord built on D.
