Arnaud Quercy

Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

Series: The Gardens

Part of City of Lights, Shadows of Thoughts · 8 works in this series

Eight small-format works on paper — acrylic and watercolor — painted in the Jardin du Luxembourg and at a bench at its edge. The site is constant; the light changes. Warm, compressed reds in the acrylics give way to breathing ochres and blue-grays in the watercolors. Two media, one afternoon, eight translations.

About This Artwork

This watercolor explores the intersection of architectural observation and abstract interpretation through geometric forms and organic color relationships. Part of the City of Lights, Shadows of Thoughts collection, the work transforms the experience of walking through Paris's Luxembourg Gardens into a visual language of circles, rectangles, and flowing color zones.

Light gray tones dominate the composition, creating an atmospheric foundation that suggests filtered daylight through garden spaces. Warm burlywood and ochre areas provide substantial color presence, while muted blue-green sections offer cooling counterpoints. The geometric elements—circular forms, vertical rectangles, and linear divisions—organize these color relationships into a structured yet fluid arrangement. Small accent notes in steelblue and dark olive green punctuate specific areas, creating focal points within the broader composition.

The work measures 12 × 16 cm on paper, maintaining the intimate scale characteristic of observational sketching while achieving the complexity of studio composition. Certificate of authenticity number 20240615-0116 accompanies the piece, with the artist's signature located at the bottom right. This variation represents one exploration within the broader collection examining urban garden experiences through abstract watercolor techniques.
