About This Artwork

In the Woods of Saint Germain explores the intersection of natural observation and urban reflection through contemporary oil painting. Part of the Nature in the City collection, this work examines how forest environments persist within metropolitan contexts, translating the experience of Saint Germain's ancient woodlands into geometric abstraction.

The composition centers on muted earth tones that dominate the surface. Very dark gray and steel gray tones create the foundational structure, while ochre and orange accents provide warm counterpoints. The painting organizes these colors into geometric forms that suggest both architectural elements and natural fragments. A subtle violet accent appears as a small highlight, creating visual tension against the predominantly warm palette. The oil technique allows colors to blend smoothly in some areas while maintaining sharp edges in others.

The work measures 22.5 × 16.0 cm on canvas, positioning it as an intimate study rather than a large statement piece. Certificate of authenticity number 20240514-0076 accompanies the work, with the artist's signature located on the front right. This piece was completed in 2024 as part of Quercy's ongoing investigation into how natural spaces function within urban environments.
