Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.
He creates and exhibits at Art Quam Anima, his gallery-atelier at 28 rue du Dragon, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris.
About This Artwork
This work explores the visual translation of musical harmony through chromesthetic mapping, part of the Synesthetic Explorations collection. The Ab Major triad—Ab, C, Eb—appears as a spread voicing across five octaves, each chord tone rendered in its corresponding color family through the artist's systematic approach to sound-color correspondence.
Blue-green tones dominate the composition, occupying nearly half the surface area and representing the root Ab in multiple octaves. Red-orange areas provide substantial presence through the third C, while darker red sections accent the harmonic structure. The composition organizes these color relationships through geometric divisions—a central cream-colored vertical band separates the main color fields, with angular black line work defining spatial boundaries and creating visual rhythm that echoes the chord's internal tensions.
The work measures 10.0 × 15.0 cm and uses acrylic on paper, with the artist's signature appearing bottom right. Certificate of authenticity number 20240615-0139 accompanies this piece from the Synesthetic Explorations collection. The compact format concentrates the harmonic relationships into an intimate study, allowing the color interactions to function as direct translations of the musical intervals within the Ab Major chord structure.
