Arnaud Quercy

Arnaud Quercy is a Parisian artist working across painting, music, and sculpture. His practice is grounded in Ideamorphism — the principle that a work of art does not carry meaning, but triggers it. Each piece is engineered to diffract differently through each person who encounters it.

About This Artwork

Arnaud Quercy engages the cubist tradition of guitar deconstruction established by Picasso and Braque in this pencil drawing. The work fractures the instrument into overlapping geometric planes, presenting body, neck, soundhole, and strings from simultaneous viewpoints. This is not illustration but spatial investigation—testing how a recognizable form can be dismantled and reassembled within the picture plane while maintaining its conceptual identity as guitar. The drawing belongs to Mediterranean Echoes, a collection drawing from cultural memory and symbolic forms.

The composition fragments the guitar through overlapping planes and intersecting lines. Tonal gradation creates localized volumes within flattened spatial relationships. The fretboard appears both frontally and in perspective while circular voids float free from their anatomical positions. Line weight variation and shading investigate how volume emerges within spatial compression. The paper's surface supports pencil's specific affordances—the ability to overlay, erase, and build tonal range through graphite's gradations.

The drawing measures fourteen point eight by twenty-one centimeters and was created in France. Quercy signed the work on the front. Certificate number 20221231-0053 authenticates this piece within the Mediterranean Echoes collection. The work originated as preparatory exploration for a potential sculpture but remains unrealized as Quercy's practice shifted toward symbolic works and abstraction.
